Formed near Oxford, England in the mid 80’s, the Company was initially set up to manufacture the cult guitar synthesiser, the SynthAxe, made famous by Alan Holdsworth and Al Di Meola. The electronic and sensor technologies involved in the creation of the SynthAxe allowed the evolution of the company into one which provided technical solutions principally to the academic & scientific communities around Oxford and it built up a reputation for its problem solving skills in electronic engineering and sensor technologies. Its successes included the design and manufacture of a robot that removes nuclear fuel rods from decommissioned atomic power stations as well as the production of rugged automation and control systems to produce super-conducting magnets for CERN in the creation of artificial “Black Holes” and Body Scanners. The company has evolved into a specialist electronics engineering company, with proven skills in sensors and control systems. In 1997/8 it designed the first ever LED reading light for a commercial airliner (Virgin Atlantic).
In late 2002, the current Chairman, then an existing investor in the Company purchased it with the vision that Telectra (now Beadlight) would have a clear market objective to be the leader in quality specialised intelligent solid-state lighting systems. Since then a new management team has been installed and the company has received ISO 9001 accreditation.
The company changed its name to Beadlight Ltd. in March 2006.
