Ice Lighting evolves on the road to growth

The ice lighting concept was never going to be an easy road to travel but the journey has been exciting and always with its ups and downs. Feature lighting has to look spectacular, provide animations and video effects and “be easy on the eye” and ice lighting does all of this.

The issue for Beadlight was to find markets for technologies it had developed for the aerospace market. The key USP for the aircraft interiors market was LED (Light Emitting Diode) technologies combined with Beadlight diffusion in a superbly designed package.

Beadlight diffusion allows light to be viewed close up as well as from a distance by ameliorating the glare normally associated with LEDs; not only better to look at but made beautiful through the sparkle and scintillation of thousands of virtual point sources of light. Combine this feature with Beadlight’s proprietary animation (video) software and you have unique viewable products that form a type of screen consisting of various ice lighting components (similar or mixed).

Working on the same control principles, the Super Panels, Super Tubes, Video Lines and other ice lighting products are designed into an array to fulfil the designer’s imagination; the second part of which is to “play animations” across it.

Primary control comes from Beadlight’s ACU (Automated Control Unit) which has eight channels, each feeding up to 48 pixels each. 48 pixels may be represented by 48 crystal cubes, for example, or possibly a single Super Tube which has 48 RGB pixels in a single product. Sequences are pre-programmed into the ACU and these are triggered by DMX. The system is designed to be robust, easily reprogrammable and operate on a 24/7 basis.
